         Less than a hour by train from Osaka, the small city of Himeji is one of the most viewed spots of central Japan. Designated both a National Treasure and UNESCO world heritage site, the castle has been built on 1609 and has never been destroyed in wars or natural disasters.

The best season for visiting  Himeji Castle is spring, when cherry blossoms cover all the park which surrounds the castle.
 
<Renovation works Notice: From April 2010 until March 2014 renovation works will be carried out  on the main keep of Himeji Castle. The keep will be completely unavailable for visitors from April 2010 until early 2011.
